Sunday, I went to the Parque Metropolitano Simón Bolívar with Robbie, a British fellow. The Parque Simón Bolívar is Bogotá’s largest city park. Its facilities include, among other things, a library and an amusement park. Here are some photos of our outing.

As promised, here are some photos of the Salt Cathedral (Catedral de Sal). The ”Cathedral” was built in the tunnels of a mine about 200 meters below a mountain in Zipaquirá, a town located roughly 40 kilometres north of Bogotá. Lora, Charlie and I left our hostel early in the afternoon Saturday and took the [...]

The last couple of days have been quite busy for me down here. On Friday morning, I met with representatives of the Organización Nacional Indígena de Colombia – ONIC. I might have an interview with its president this week to discuss the issues faced by peoples at risk of extinction. I will keep you updated [...]

Tonight, I went up to the Teleférico a Monserrate with Lora and Charlie, two fellows from Kansas (Yes, that’s where the Wizard of Oz takes place.) Here are long exposure photos I took. Some of them need barrel correction though. I will work on that when I get a chance.

The light was nice this afternoon so I went photo hunting in La Candaleria, my neighbourhood here in Bogotá. I thought this mural was gorgeous and would make for a great photo. So, I set my camera on manual mode and took the first two photos to test the exposure. I then started trying various [...]

BOGOTA – I arrived yesterday in Bogotá, Colombia, where I will be staying for the month of July. I am here to shoot a documentary on political and street theatre as part of my Master’s Research Project. In the coming weeks, I will explore how local theatre groups use art as a tool to address [...]

Last night, I went to see the sunset on the Ottawa River. Here is a series of my best takes. I will make sure to use an external flash and/or a bounce instead of the built-in flash next time. The latter tends to create ”shinny” spots on faces.

It was nice out yesterday so I went for a bike ride. With the warm weather, tulips were starting to come out. Here are some photos I took downtown. On a side note, the 2010 edition of the Canadian Tulip Festival will be held in Ottawa, May 7-24.

Today, I registered four of my photos for Carleton’s Through a Global Lens Photography Competition. Here are my picks for the four categories:

My parents came for a visit this weekend. Saturday, we went cross-country skiing in the Gatineau hills. Here are some photos of our day. (Click on any photo to launch the gallery.) (©2010 Jean-Sébastien Marier)

The Rideau Canal Skateway opened last week. The ”World’s Largest Skating Rink” is celebrating its forth decade of operation this season. On Wednesday, Samantha and I hit the ice on the 4.3 km section in service between Bank Street Bridge and Mackenzie King Bridge. Here are some photos of our evening. A 7.4 km section [...]

Today, Samantha and I went to see her cousins play hockey. First stop, the Sandy Hill Arena for a 5 p.m. Atom game. The local Ottawa East team won. Next stop, the St. Laurent Complex for a 6 p.m. Pee-Wee Atom A match between the Ottawa East Nationals and the visiting Canterbury Crusaders . The [...]

This evening, I went for some cross-country skiing in the park behind my house with my better half. I brought my camera along and gave a try at black & white photography. Here are some of the results. Last Sunday, I went skiing in Gatineau Park with friends. Here is a photo of our day.

UPDATE 2: It appears that 6 out of 7 of my photos were posted online after all. The two previously mentioned were selected to illustrate an article. UPDATE 1: Two of these photos made it to the Ottawa Citizen’s website. Go to this article and click on the ”Photos” tab. The funeral procession for slain [...]

I took this picture last summer while in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is surely one of the most photographed structures in the world, but I am always amazed by the architectural genius behind its construction. The lights installed on the tower give a nice effect to capture on camera at night. I added a little [...]

I took this photo of the Roman Coliseum during my last night in Rome last summer (Aug. 23, 2009). The light trails in the foreground are from cars driving by. Seeing modern cars in front of the two-thousand-year old monument gives a surrealistic dimension to the scene. This photo was taken with the following settings: [...]

I like Nathan Phillips Square a lot. This public park sits at the feet of Toronto City Hall. In the summer months, a fountain replaces the skating rink. The long exposure time and low aperture give the ”ghost” effect that can be observed on the photo. This photo was taken with the following settings: – [...]

Each year, fireworks are held at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square during the Cavalcade of Lights. These pyrotechnical shows are featured on Saturday nights from late November until the end of December. For more information: Toronto Special Events
